Born To Run

I was reading in the paper about a South African Spriter, he was fast, so fast in fact that if he had beaten the women's times at the last Olympics .. And the most amazing thing was he had no legs! ( and I am not talking about the Para-Olympics)
He had legs til his knees, and then he had some super carbon-fiber prosthetics. He was amazing and he is determined to compete at the next Olympics in Beijing 2008!
To describe his performance is nothing short of Inspirational (article) . He was not born with fibula bones and his feet were not properly developed so at 11 months they were amputated. He sees himself as abled-bodied and doesn't park in disabled car spots.
Truly this young man is on a mission.
And the most amazing thing is with his sprint feet, he can surpass the most fastest men in the world due to the technology behind the add-ons. Read the above article for more information, and there is now a huge debate on allowing him to participate in the Olympics, as the technology is ground-breaking!
When I read articles like this, it makes me wonder about people's determination, their passions, and what makes them tick. To be abled-bodied and live a complacent life is just not good enough, we are all born to succeed, and Oscar Pistorius is showing the world that barriers don't exist where there is determination and ambition.
I am personally going to follow his story and visualise him making the next Olympics, what a wonderful vision would that be for the entire community, irrespective of ability or nationality etc,
He has set the bar for more inspirational athletes and for a new generation of super sportsmen/women
So be inspired, I certainly am.

At Crossroads

When you are really focusing on one area in your life you naturally put your life under the microscope, so if you are focusing on your career for example, and managing your workload you will think about your significant relationship (or another life area).
Is it what you truly want? Do I need to search for a partner? Are we ready for more committment?, kids? etc it is natural to enquire about other areas in your life, as you focus on your career and wonder what is this all for? What is my purpose with this?
This happened to me a few short years ago. I was unhappy at work and it was affecting my health, with tight shoulders and neck, the tension was unbearable some days. I know it was impacting my relationship as I was using my husband as my own personal punching bag! Not a good way to treat him, I know that now....
So when you start changing an area in your life watch for the trickle effect as it has a wider impact in your life.
See change as a positive thing, you are moving closer to want you want, and remember to balance your energy so all areas get some focus.

Open to Opportunities

It's another day, and new opportunities await us, how many approach life like this? I would hazard a guess only a few, as we are creatures of habit and feel today will be like yesterday etc. Well it doesn't have to be you know?
A new day and new doors open, and if that is your model of the world then that is what you get...remember you get what you focus on..
I am proud to say my husband Thomas got involved in a wonderful new venture with some new business opportunities, he is attracting this like a magnet, he is a money magnet and I am surprised each day what comes his way, yes he has the midas touch!
And so, me watching him from the sidelines, I ponder at what has changed? His attitude FOR SURE, he starts his day with singing in the shower and doing his mental preparation for the day, he is busting with energy and the whole day unravels like this, it is beautiful to watch and for me very inspiring... makes me want to be a better person..
So shall I share one of his 'opportunities' sure why not? Well as many of you are fully aware Social Networking is the way to go on the internet, with many companies more hungry for user content, in particular video streaming, well this company is about to launch in one of the most network oriented cultures: Germany!

5 Tips for Leadership

6. Model successful leaders: They make a bold claim and then execute it, they make it happen, giving specific dates. They follow through on the self fulfilling prophecy. Get others to work towards these visions. Getting the buy-in for other people, what does it mean for them? What is the value for them? Having behavioural flexibility is also a trait of successful leaders. Operate from physiology (smiling) and psychology of excellence, this is going to happen. Be congruent as it is going to happen.
7. Values: What motivates you? Values are the compass towards your goals. What is important to you? List and understand your values as these will give you the passion to be involved. If you know what motivates you then you can learn what motivates your staff, what are their triggers?
8. Who’s on your team: Who is going to be most important in accomplishing my mission? It is important that you win over these people in your team (note them down, and why are they important) where the value is for them, for them being part of this. What is in it for them? How can you assist them get to what they want. See their perspective.
9. Do what you expect from your team: If your team needs to work collectively then be part of that and work alongside them. Be part of the team and do what they do, this will give you great insight to the team and earn you more respect and loyalty. If you cannot do the tasks, then still be part of it with other activities, it shows you care about them and want to share the group dynamics.
10. Your Vision: What is the company vision, your vision for the team. The sign posts are the goals, which go towards your goals (3 months goals) The mission is the how you are going to do that: empowering staff, being an influential in the work place.
the other 1-5 tips are in my Born To Succeed blog..in summary they are:
1) Build Rapport
2) Think about what you DO want
3) Perception is Projection
4) Create your Goals
5) Observe People

Brainstorming
Whilst I was just waiting for my lunch at my local coffee shop, ideas started coming to me and I wish I had a notepad for my ramblings, so I used the cafe napkin instead. You know the ideas that could be very beneficial for work and obtaining more clients, it was a must that I captured my thoughts, afraid they would dissappear never to resurface.
When our creative juices flow we are just like the messenger, just scribing the notes and then taking it in, it is a beautiful, powerful process. Some of the things that came to me were:
1) Be the successful Coach in everything you do
2) Connect with people everday, doesn't matter where just make contact
3) Be ok if your calendar has blank spaces, enjoy those moments to cultivate your ideas and write everyday
4) Be strategic with belonging to networking groups, don't need to belong to them all, just think about your target market
5) Smile everyday and practise gratitude
I liked my ideas so much that I am using some techniques with my clients so they too get some insights, for me it is about the sharing and growing at the same time.
When I finished my lunch, I carefully tucked my resourceful napkins (yes I asked for a couple more!) in my bag, as if I had the most important valueable napkins, well to me they were!
So next time ideas come, let them flow and experience this brainstorming experience, it is your creativity coming out!

Be Daring!

We like doing different things, going to different restaurants, walks, trying on new clothes. We like the novelty value, as our brains are in constant motion with the 'new-ness'to it. If we get bored then our brains are not engaged in the present as we can easily drift into our old anxieties and old stress.
So be daring, go on and try something new, you will be absorbed into the present as it is all NEW and you begin your growth in this manner..
So if you are feeling blue, a change really can be as good as a vacation. If you try a new sport, a new place for cafe or even if you drive a different way home you have broken your old pattern. So shake it up a bit!
Naturally if you have a set routine that is great keep it, just add to it a little and you then don't take it for granted. You may even learn new skills by being more adventurous.
I dare you to surprise yourself and start something NEW!

Be your own Epicenter

Yesterday a client mentioned that she felt like she was the epicenter of her social circle. Interesting thought. She decided she had given too much energy to others and felt a little neglected herself.
So she told her social group to create their own epicenter! Wise words... indeed. If you are like this client organising others' social calender and giving your energy way people will gladly take it from you! So watch out. You need to balance yourself and keep some energy for you!
If you create your own fire you willl be more balanced and be the creator of you day rather than waiting by the phone hoping someone has organised your weekend.
Being your own source energy is the better alternative when you take responsibility for your choices and not feel responsible for other peoples' fun/ or lack of.
So as my client left the session, she knew she had made the right choice and already felt lighter from making that decision.

Never Give Up

Had the best day today, just got news that a friend who has her partner living in Sydney and she in Melbourne, thus the communiting on weekends, got a wonderful job offer in Sydney!. Success comes to all who do not give up. Just when the road ahead of you may seem unrelenting and bumpy, you need to just keep going and doing your thing.
Eventually you will get what you want, keep persevering and your reward will come.
Good attitude to have when you truly want something and this sometimes can be a challenge as you may not see the path on HOW you will make it happen. Just focus on your actions and how you will feel when you have it!
Wonderful, content, over the moon, joyous, exuberant, fantastic, it is a miracle!
Expect miracles and that is what you will get!
So congratulations on your new job, now you can move to be closer to those people that you love and share quality time with those around you!
Now you can celebrate and plan the next few weeks with a smile on your face.

Model of the World
I was with a client in her workplace yesterday, and I realised that she expected others to see her model of the world. Big assumption yes, and I spoke to her about widening her scope and having more behavioural flexiblity after all she had a team to manage. When you become a leader in an organisation, your role changes. You are no longer that friend, that staff come up to and have a chat. You are now a manager (one of them!) and sadly in the working environmnent you need to adapt and pick up the pace. You are a professional, you have added responsibilities and you need the support of your team.
Taking care of your staff ensuring they have the tools, resources and knowledge to do the job well, to spend quality time with new recruits as this is essential that they learn quickly and adapt to the company culture.
Ask yourself "why are they doing that?" if you want them to do something different you need to be an excellent communicator and you need to show them how. Some people learn by doing, others by seing it once and off they go. Most of us however, want another to do it first, or a second time, let us try whilst you are close by, and then we want to be left alone to do it. Simple. If you pick things up easily and expect others to be the same, then you are going to go through a lot of staff until you find someone that learns like you!.
Patience is a key ingredient if you manage and lead people.
So if you would like to improve your work practices or get a coach over at your next team meeting, come and visit us , and we can scope out your needs.

Affect Others Profoundly

Upon my journey of self development, by the way it never stops, you always learn things about you and how you relate to the world. Yes I came across some writings about the Law Of Attraction, well this really struck a cord with me, it left me thinking about the ramifications and my legacy which I will be leaving behind me..
The more you touch others, the more attractive you will be. Simple isn't it? And very deep, this means you focus on others and being altrustic, you give and you share. It gave me a lovely feeling that being part of this world is not just, 'what can I get out of it' however it gave me a feeling that we are all connected and we need to touch/reach others in whatever way we can, this makes us part of a community, social consciousness, we trust..
So how do you plan on using this attraction principle? I am going to keep coaching pro-bono, I have about 3 clients I coach for Free, and if there are other people that need my services and they cannot afford to pay, well let them contact me, and state their case. If they are hungry for change and see no way of getting the money to pay for professional coaching, they are in an unresourceful state, and I can assist them, sure.. For me it is about connection and balance.
Another thing that came to mind was to donate my time, finding a passion and helping others in the process, so I attend a conversation class at Manly Lib on Wednesdays, we speak in Spanish and it is a fun way to keep my mother tongue!
So have a think of what you can do? After all this makes you more attractive!

Have A Vision

Lately when I have been coaching clients a reoccuring theme pops up, and it evolves around having a vision, what vision do you have for your future?
This sometimes creates more conditions, like well "if this goes right and I meet my future husband, then my vision will be?" "if I meet my goal" then I have this vision..
You can see that our lives can simply become 'conditional living', as one thing (a major thing) needs to happen before we contemplate our vision the master plan.
I am here to let you know that having the VISION first will help you with those major goals, or those milestones, as you see the bigger picture and know you are going this way. Create a 10 year plan or even a 5 Year plan if the 10 year one is too scary. List the things you will have, what you will be, and really get into the details of how this will feel for you. Believe you can have these things, and believe you are worthy of that career etc.
Then create a VISION BOARD, this is where you get pictures of those things, your ideal house, car, holidays, friends, family. What you really want, and hang this in your bedroom or office.
Now this exercise is for those people who want to create EACH day and make it the best ever, as they are consciously moving in that direction. It is a fun way to start the day and feel like you are the creator. You visualise yourself having these things on your board, you feel grateful and excited about having this in your life.
So next time you are browsing magazines and you see something you like, cut it out, and post it on your VISION BOARD, and see it coming towards you.
If you need assistance creating a board just contact us, we would be delighted to assist you on your VISION

Embracing Change

When things change in our lives, some of us resist it, push it away and don't want to entertain the fact that things are no longer the same. Take career for example, I had a client ring me this am, she was offered a wonderful job, she wanted this role and was 'stuck' as she was thinking of all the things this would mean: more stress, more responsibility, more expectations. Well in the end you can always say no, and stay in your lower paid job, conform and not be challenged, as that is the flip side to not taking this dynamic role. When we confront our fears, we get change, and this was a classic example. She will be growing, learning, and becoming more empowered in this journey.
Naturally she will need to keep her work life balance, and this is where I come in. I will support her through the transistion, assist in creating boundaries for her and also at her own self esteem, what does she need to do for herself so she can feel good each day?
With embracing change, comes adventure, pushing yourself a little, experiencing something new, and it is a fun process, wherever you have left your job today and have not got something to fall back onto, doesn't matter, you can create your ideal job, just think about what you really want and what are your values around work.
See a coach to help you idenitify these areas and the world will soon enough open up to be a palate of colours, and all you need to do is pick the colour you WANT.
We love change...

Get Excited

There are lessons, everywhere, we just need to be open to see them. Today I got an insight to a very humbling lesson, allow me to share this with you...
When you feel your body, what do you notice? A strain, flexiblity perhaps or maybe you just feel tired, like the rest of the working population. Well whatever that feeling is, especially if it's not a positive feeling GET EXCITED. That is right knowing you are not feeling the best for whatever reason, gives you permission to get excited, because you have that self awareness of tiredness, tight muscles, weak hamstrings..or whatever and you are now moving towards something else. You are conscious of that feeling and you want to change it, because it's always there doesn't mean you need to live with it, do something about it!
Move, get active, and embrace your weaknesses and start feeling better about the recovery process, when you shift your energy towards what you do want your body will follow and will feel better trust me. I used to always internally complain about my body aches and pains, and on somedays I still do (yeah pity party day!), more often nowadays, I smile and feel what I'm feeling for the day and have a better attitude about it and the day runs so much smoother, and I have abundant energy for whatever comes my way.
It's a great feeling being empowered with your body and knowing that in action you can gain clarity, focus, determination and a sense of achievement..
So being humble is wonderful, be grounded each time you take a step forward and watch the world through a different perspective.

Stretch Yourself

I remember a time, when I was always doing something new, flamenco classes, trying new food, walking home a new way. Wearing clothes I hardly wore. I even changed jobs every 6-9 months and had so much variety in my life. Now looking back I can see that I was just simply stretching myself in doing different things and even thought I felt unsettled most of those years, I am glad I tried it and as a result I know what I like and what I don't like.
When you do different things you get out of your comfort zone, you embrace change, you are confident so no matter what you see the bright side of things. The growth, the development and the new. I have always liked new things, even though now I am more conversative in my decision making I can still make spontaneous decisions on the fly. If you calculate every move, every consequence you stay stuck and the opportunity just passes you by. If you allow yourself to embrace some change you will change as a result, so decide what type of change you can handle, and become empowered by it and not resist it, it is coming wherever you like it or not, so if you move with change you become dynamic and irresitable as things begin to happen for you and with you, you are your own creator.
I am glad I was all over the place in my 20s and early 30s, it has given me a great foundation to explore be curious and know exactly what I want.
So learn to stretch yourself, what will you do differently today?
