Are you a clutterer?

It is the time now during spring in the southern hemisphere to clean out unnecessary items, pack away winter woolies, and winter clothes. To make room for the summer ahead and tidy cupboards, wardrobes and book shelves...

I am inspired to write about what I am actually doing, and today is the day! washing, cleaning and reorganising our limited wardrobe space. It is amazing how we just put things on top of things and other gems get buried, only to be found when we re-organise. We create clutter in our homes and thus in our minds as all available space is occupied with something!

We live in a convenience society, where we have gadgets for this and that, so we accumulate things along the way. Do you:

  • Keep things in boxes and haven't looked at them in years

  • Store old sentimental things that are broken or no longer in use, but keep them anyway

  • Collect books amongst books and realise you need more storage

  • Keep those size smaller pants/outfits for the day you loose weight

  • Have clothes that you have had for years and have yet to wear

  • Keep paper everywhere in your office, in a disorganised fashion

Just an awareness exercise to be honest with yourself and realise that you can change and create more space at home and in your mind.

Having excess things just creates more chaos, and could mean that we do not want to let go of the past, a distant memory you want to keep alive. It could also signify having control and aiming for perfection as you keep things, and if you throw it away you will never be able to replace it.

Making decisions would also be difficult as it is easier to just keep things, this could translate to other areas in your life.

Being aware is the first step. I know once I have done my spring clean, I will feel lighter, clearer and know what I need to replace and what is no longer serving me.

I have a lot of good china that belonged to our parents. We use one saucer for our cat, that's it. The rest is sitting in a hutch and some is in boxes stored in a basement closet. It's pretty. It's in perfect condition. It's too good to throw away, but who would want it? To list it on Ebay would be so time consuming and I hate to think about packing it all up and shipping because there's a lot and the postage would be very high because it would be heavy as well.

Karen, why not use it? if your cat uses it then why not you? You said it was pretty, then make it part of your crockery set. Just a suggestion.
